Jury Duty

The Jury Commission is not part of the Circuit Clerk's office

Trial by jury is a fundamental principle of our system of justice. The United States Constitution guarantees all people, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, or economic status the right to trial by an impartial jury of oneís peers. We need those summoned to participate in the jury process to ensure every citizenís right to have their case decided by an impartial jury selected from a representative pool of prospective jurors.

The following is what to expect when reporting for jury duty.

The average length of a jury trial is usually two to three days depending on the type of case.

You may not bring NEWSPAPERS, VIDEO AND AUDIO RECORDERS, OR CAMERAS
If selected to serve on a jury, you cannot use nor have a cell phone during the time you are serving as a juror.
Dress comfortably but properly for a courtroom setting.
Free parking is located in the county lot located on 9th & Adams. You must get your ticket validated at the Jury Commission.
You will receive $15.00 a day plus 10 cents a mile, round trip according to your zip code.
Payment is mailed to your home typically ten to fourteen working days after the completion of your jury service.

You may not be terminated or penalized for serving on a jury.
The only person able to excuse you from jury service is the judge.

For any special accommodations, please contact the Jury Commission Coordinator's office at 217-753-6715.
