Born in 1860 in Springfield, Samuel T Jones was a
well-known businessman in the political circles of Springfield. Jones served as
Circuit Clerk of Sangamon County for 8 years, his term stretching from 1904 to
1912.
Jones was elected Circuit Clerk at the conclusion of J.
L. Bliss’s short time in office of one year. Jones was a devoted member of the
Masonic Fraternity, maintaining connections with the Blue Lodge of
Williamsville, the Lodge of Perfection in Springfield, and the Shrine and
Consistory in Chicago. The Masonic Fraternity focuses heavily on charity and
service, and also requires all members to believe in a Deity. Jones’s devotion
to this group reflects on the good qualities of his character that Masons look
for, such as honesty and integrity.
At the time of his death, Samuel T Jones left behind his
wife and two daughters.
