Wilhelmina Gunther, Executive Director of the Illinois Assistive Technology Program commented, "I'm excited to see that the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk's office, a local governmental entity, has stepped up to meet people's needs by adding BrowseAloud to their site. Hopefully others will follow in their footsteps."

Technology is an excellent way for municipal, county, state and federal government to facilitate full participation for people with disabilities, but is often overlooked.  I’ve tested the browsealoud feature on the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s website and found it to be an excellent accessibility tool.  Other bodies of government should follow the example of Tony Libri, and utilize such technology to make their websites more accessible for their constituents.

 announce NEW FREE service

Illinois Legal Aid Online is a Free service brought to you by the Circuit Clerk's office and the Seventh Judicial Courts.  Quick answers to your legal questions can be located through grouped listings.  Video presentations are available from experts in their fields.  A computer system along with headphones and printing capabilities are available to the public for free within the Circuit Clerk’s office.  This is not a substitute for an attorney, but it is a useful tool in assisting someone through legal procedures.  A link has also been placed on our website for internet access to Illinois Legal Aid Online available 24 hours a day (http://www.sangamoncountycircuitclerk.org) .

The Sangamon County Legal Self-Help Center has been made possible by a grant from the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation through Prairie State Legal Services.  They  provided the funding to purchase the computer and printer for the new legal self-help center.  The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation receives it funding through an appropriation from the Illinois General Assembly.  The Circuit Clerk’s office is providing printing supplies, space, and support personnel.
