Dwight H. O'Keefe Jr.
1968 -1972

 

Dwight H. O’Keefe Jr. was the 22nd Circuit Clerk of Sangamon County and served in this position from 1968 to 1972.  O’Keefe was born in 1914 in Springfield, IL to Dwight H. O’Keefe Sr. and Anna Louise Young-O’Keefe. From 1941-1946, Dwight served in the United States Army and was eventually promoted to Captain.

O’Keefe Jr. married Nancy Nuess on June 7, 1942; Nancy died in 2006. After returning from war, O’Keefe became the owner of O’Keefe Insurance Agency from 1946-1975. In 1975, the company named changed to Lee O’Keefe Insurance Agency, which Dwight owned from then until 1991.

Dwight was an active member of the Springfield community, serving on the Board of Education from 1951-1955. In 1957, O’Keefe served as the campaign chair of the Springfield and Sangamon County United Way. Dwight was a steadfast businessman, acting as president for the America Business Club from 1948-1949 and maintaining an active membership throughout his life.

At the time of his death, Dwight Jr. left behind one daughter, one son, four grandsons, and one great-great grandson.
